Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?

The terms “registered dietitian” (RD) and “nutritionist” are often used interchangeably, but there are important distinctions between the two.

A registered dietitian (RD) or (RDN) is a healthcare professional who has completed specific education, training, and clinical practice requirements. They hold a bachelor’s degree in nutrition or a related field and have undergone supervised internships and passed a national examination. RDs are regulated healthcare professionals who are licensed or certified in many states and countries.

RDs are equipped with comprehensive knowledge of nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, and evidence-based practices.

The term “nutritionist” is broader and can be used to describe individuals with varying levels of education and credentials in the field of nutrition.

While some nutritionists may have formal education and credentials, others may have completed short courses, certifications, or self-study programs. The requirements to use the title “nutritionist” can vary widely depending on the jurisdiction or organization.

Not all nutritionists are registered dietitians, however all dietitians are nutritionists. While some nutritionists may possess a deep understanding of nutrition and provide valuable advice, others may lack the comprehensive training and expertise that registered dietitians undergo.

By consulting with a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, you can be confident in knowing that you are working with a qualified healthcare professional also known as the food and nutrition expert.

What is integrative nutrition?

Integrative nutrition is a holistic approach to health and wellness that considers the interconnectedness of food, lifestyle, and overall well-being.

Unlike traditional nutrition approaches, integrative nutrition takes into account the whole person, recognizing that physical health is influenced by emotional, mental, and spiritual health.

It emphasizes personalized nutrition plans tailored to each individual’s unique needs, preferences, and goals, focusing on nutrient-dense foods, lifestyle modifications, and holistic practices to optimize health outcomes.

Integrative nutrition empowers individuals to take an active role in their health journey, promoting sustainable changes for long-term well-being.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Insurance payments. Visa, Mastercard, HSA/FSA

How can a dietitian help me?

A dietitian can provide valuable guidance and support to help you achieve your health and nutrition goals.  A dietitian will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your current eating habits, medical history, lifestyle factors, and specific nutritional needs. This assessment helps them understand your unique requirements and design a personalized plan that suits your individual needs.

Whether your goal is to manage weight, improve overall health, address specific health conditions, or optimize athletic performance, a dietitian can help you set realistic and achievable goals. They will work with you to create a customized nutrition plan that fits your lifestyle and preferences.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we accept Cigna, United Healthcare, Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Humana, and Medicare among many other plans.

Note: In order for Medicare to cover nutrition counseling, clients must have a diagnosis of diabetes or chronic kidney disease with a referral from their physician. All referrals can be faxed to (833) 295-0183.

How do telehealth appointments work?

We use a HIPPA compliant, encripted  platform for all virtual appointments and communications. You can use your computer, phone or tablet to create an account and log in for all video chats, messaging and telehealth appointments.

Do I need a referral to see a dietitian?

In most cases you will not need a referral. However, some insurance plans such as Medicare, do require a physician referral.
